Western North Carolina has long been a thriving center of American studio ceramics, with some of the finest makers, galleries, clay and tool manufacturers, and esteemed educational institutions calling the area home. On September 27, 2024, after making landfall in Florida, Hurricane Helene brought devastating wind, flooding, and landslides to the region. The storm caused at least 108 reported deaths and major destruction of infrastructure and residential areas. Created by Ceramic Arts Network, this documentary captures the stories of some of these artists. Not only do we hear heartbreaking stories of loss and upheaval, but we also see inspiring examples of resilience, renewal, and community.
