Plaster and ceramics go hand in hand and it is what many potters use for a hump mold. Some potters prefer to keep plaster out of their studios and would opt for a bisque mold. But potter Lauren Sandler has been making hump molds for her work out of unfired clay.

A while back, we posted a great video from Kari Radasch on making a bisque hump/slump mold using a bucket. Today, I am posting another take on that technique with a couple of ingenious updates. In this post, an excerpt from the April 2024 issue of Ceramics Monthly, Olivia Tani explains how she modified this technique by drilling a hole in the bucket, and using a thicker slab of clay.
