David MacDonald's work is known for its wonderful carved surfaces, which one might assume are created with typical loop carving tool or a knife of some sort. But David developed his own custom tool for making his signature marks.

In today's video, an excerpt from his new how-to video Making Large Platters with Inscribed Decoration, David shows how to make one of these carving tools. What's great about these tools is the smooth arched inscription they make, as well as the fact that one tool creates two parallel lines. Enjoy! –Jennifer Poellot Harnetty, editor
