Join us for this two-hour webinar to get an inside look at Justin Rothshank’s low-fire soda process—from surface prep to final finishing. This is an unprecedented opportunity to see Justin's video Soda Firing Earthenware with him on hand to answer your questions! Plus, after the video viewing, Justin will demonstrate how he has been incorporating glass and side-firing techniques into his soda firings! If you’re curious about atmospheric firing on a smaller scale and at lower temperatures, this webinar is the perfect introduction!

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Advanced!

In this webinar, You'll learn how to:
  • Use underglaze chalk, liquid underglaze, and glaze to add vibrant pops of color that are complemented by the marks of the soda firing!
  • Mix two different types of wadding and apply strategically to create intentional marks, and control surface effects!
  • Use Borax washes to enhance sheen on surfaces that receive minimal soda!
  • Load your work effectively for optimal airflow, flashing, and dramatic soda effects!
  • Clean up the pots post firing and enhance surfaces with gold and platinum luster decals!
  • And much more!

This webinar will combine pre-recorded how-to instruction with live artist responses to questions raised during the presentation. The recorded segments are edited to be more concise and have optimal camera angles. Plus Justin will join us live for the viewing, and will answer questions during periodic breaks and in a Q&A session at the end!
