In this 2-hour webinar, Kate Marotz will share her pinch-coil process for making unique sculptural vessels! Focusing on the mug form, Kate will teach you how to overcome the common pinching challenge of controlling the form as you pinch your work thinner. Her insights will help you take advantage of each coil and create any shape you can dream up! She will demonstrate how to make three different styles of pinched handles to perfectly accentuate the form you are making. To top things off, Kate will walk you through her surface techniques using terra sigillata, wax resist, and a Borax wash!
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Advanced (but beginners can find inspiration too!)
Kate will demonstrate:
Using coil & pinch techniques to make striking, one-of-a-kind mugs that celebrate the mark of the maker!
How to vary the direction of your pinching to create dynamic volume and negative space!
Creating a trimmed, Kurinuki-style foot and three different pinched handles!
Applying colored terra sigillata to create a patterned exterior!
Using wax resist and borax wash to add depth to the terra sig surfaces in the electric kiln!
