Join Elizabeth Paley on Wednesday, May 7, 1–3pm EDT USA, for a workshop on piercing clay pots. While demonstrating her process, Elizabeth will share strategies for cutting free-hand patterns that create visual interest and maintain structural
integrity. She'll work from small tealight holders to large bowls, sharing all of her tips for success along the way.
SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner – Intermediate Throwers (should be comfortable throwing even-walled cylinders). Experienced Handbuilders are also welcome.
Elizabeth will demonstrate how to:
Throw and trim forms with even walls for carving
Consider the interplay of light and shadow in pierced designs
Plan and carve freehand patterns without the need for rigorous measuring
Avoid cracks, repair breaks, and minimize warpage
Develop successful glazing strategies for pierced forms
