Wheel throwing plates can be one of the more challenging pottery techniques. It's contrary to what you might think since they're flat after all, but trying to center a large, wide mound of clay can be a bear.

In today's video, an excerpt from his DVD Precise Imprecision: Strengthening Throwing Skills to Create Dynamic Functional Pottery, Mike Jabbur gives one of the best plate throwing demonstrations I have seen. In addition to clearly explaining all the tricks to making a traditional round plate form, Mike adds his own touch at the end, altering the plate to create some nice movement. - Jennifer Poellot Harnetty, editor
