Instructions

This clay body does fine with wheel-throwing and handbuilding techniques. However, it is not very plastic by nature. To improve its plasticity, pugging and de-airing or making it as a slip and drying it out are recommended. As for grog, I have recently been using a combination of medium-mesh Christy Minerals and medium-mesh mullite. The fired color ranges from reddish-orange to a deep burgundy red. I formulated this clay body for low-fire soda firing. If overfired, past cone 2, it will become brittle. It is best to keep the firing range anywhere from cone 02 to cone 1. Grog can be added in a range of 5-10%.
