I have tried many different approaches to throwing clay bowls on the potter’s wheel, but until filming Lisa Orr's video, I had never thought to throw a bowl in a bisque mold. Lisa uses this technique so that she can carve low-relief texture decoration into the mold, which then shows up on the outside of the finished product. Not only is this a great way to add texture, but it can also help those of us who have trouble throwing larger forms.

In today’s clip, Lisa shows how she carves decoration into the mold when it is leather-hard and then throws in the bisque mold. I can't wait to play around with this super fun wheel technique. Hope you like it as much as I do! - Jennifer Poellot Harnetty, editor
