Making teapot spouts

Teapots are one of the most challenging forms to tackle when you are starting off in pottery making. Even after you've developed a basic mastery of pottery techniques, they can continue to be a challenge. There are so many pieces and parts to teapot forms (spout, handle, lid, knob, body, etc.), and getting the timing right when making them can be a challenge. Even more difficult is getting all the parts to work together, not just physically, but aesthetically too.

That's why we decided to make a compilation video with different artists demonstrating how they make teapots. Four Approaches to the Teapot features four interesting and diverse ways to make teapots by four well-known and respected artists: Julia Galloway, Randy Johnston, Lisa Naples, and Donovan Palmquist. In today's video clip, you’ll get a good idea of how each artist demonstrates their unique approach. Enjoy! –Jennifer Poellot Harnetty, editor
