Teapots are one of the most challenging forms to tackle when you are starting off in pottery making. Even after you've developed a basic mastery of pottery techniques, they can continue to be a challenge. There are so many pieces and parts to teapot forms (spout, handle, lid, knob, body, etc.), and getting the timing right when making them can be a challenge. Even more difficult is getting all the parts to work together, not just physically, but aesthetically too.
That's why we decided to make a compilation video with different artists demonstrating how they make teapots. Four Approaches to the Teapotfeatures four interesting and diverse ways to make teapots by four well-known and respected artists: Julia Galloway, Randy Johnston, Lisa Naples, and Donovan Palmquist. In today's video clip, you’ll get a good idea of how each artist demonstrates their unique approach. Enjoy! –Jennifer Poellot Harnetty, editor
There are many different ways to approach making teapots, from throwing traditional teapot forms on the wheel to handbuilding teapots with soft slabs. Four Approaches to the Teapot covers four distinctly different ways of making teapots and is packed with advice to help you discover what works for you!
