For this Workshop from Home demonstration, we visited with Sam Briegel in her studio outside of Baltimore, Maryland. In this video, Sam shared her process for creating exquisite and detailed fabric texture and colored patterns on soft slabs of porcelain. Sam draws inspiration from clothing. Because clothing is both texture and print, she employs two main techniques in her work. The texture is achieved from monoprinting plaster slabs of relief onto soft slabs of porcelain and the other is from screenprinting underglaze in layers directly onto the slabs. She demonstrates both of those techniques, as well as how to make a mug with the textured slabs in this informative video!
