Handmade plates are special because, if the potter incorporates a hanging mechanism into the design, they can double as works of art that can be hung on a wall. Paul Linhares’ platters certainly fit that bill with their interesting shapes and stunning surfaces. If you are looking for smart ways to create plates that are worthy of the wall, look no farther than Paul’s Making an Oval Platter. In this video, Paul demonstrates how to combine throwing and handbuilding techniques to create a lovely oval plate form with a decorative edge and beautiful layered surface. Best of all, he shares tips and techniques for making these functional works of art efficiently so more time can be devoted to creativity!
