While not food safe, these surfaces show that unexpected glaze “defects” can turn out to be the perfect texture for non-functional, sculptural works. 

1 Bob Reed’s Offerings, 61/2 in. (17 cm) in height, handbuilt white stoneware, with Bob’s Blue-Black Crater Glaze, fired to cone 1. 2 Darren Emenau’s Ellie Euer, 4 in. (10 cm) in height, local earthenware, with MNO Lichen Glaze, fired to cone 06.

3 Ellie Euer (detail). 4 Matt Wilt’s Surrogate, 25 in. (64 cm) in length, stoneware, porcelain, multiple glazes (including Yellow Paint, Black Rubber, and Hot Lava), steel, glass. All pieces are fired to cone 9 in reduction and cooled in reduction.
