Searching through a messy pile of tools while working at the pottery wheel can be frustrating and time consuming. To solve this problem, I keep a Boon Grass Countertop Drying Rack on the workspace table at my wheel. Originally designed for air drying baby accessories, this product doubles as an excellent tool holder for potters.
To set up, place the drying rack on your workspace table within easy reach of your wheel. The green spikes of the rack provide a flexible yet sturdy grip, perfect for holding ribs and other tools upright and separated. This way, you can quickly locate and pick up the tool you need, saving precious time during your pottery sessions. Note: Remember to position sharp tools pointing downward to prevent any accidental cuts or scratches.
After finishing your throwing session, take a moment to clean your tools and place them in the grass of the drying rack for efficient air drying. The rack’s built-in tray catches any excess water, preventing wooden tools from becoming waterlogged and reducing the likelihood of rust on metal ones. Cleaning the drying rack itself is easy because the grass and tray are two separate pieces. Just disassemble them and give them a quick rinse.
