New York, Port Chester “Functional Fall: Put A Lid On It” (September 1– October 12). Open to any artists living or working in the US, ages 18 and over. This Second Annual Functional Fall Exhibition at Clay Art Center presents lidded ceramics and encourages submissions from artists at all stages of their careers. Our guest jurors state, “This exhibition of lidded ceramics spotlights the concept of containment with the intent to hold, store, commemorate, memorialize, and celebrate. The lidded pot spans millennia. From the physical need of preserving food to the spiritual need for ceremonial objects, the lidded pot is—and always has been—essential to survival. Contemporary makers continue to explore this realm of object-making in exciting and unpredictable ways. This exhibition hopes to bring together a powerfully diverse grouping of lidded pots that speak to our times in addition to our histories.” Fee: $25. Juror: Jen Allen and Doug Peltzman.
