Instructions

This glaze can be runny, so the thick/thin aspect is important. It is made with oak ashes that have been screened to remove debris. They are then soaked in a bucket of water. The water is decanted, new water added, and the ashes stirred a few times then again decanted until the water no longer feels slippery. The wet ashes are then placed in a tub draped with a cloth to assist with evaporation, and left to dry. Depending on the environment that could take weeks. Caution: Due to the amount of manganese dioxide in this recipe, use gloves when mixing as it may cause eye, skin, and respiratory-tract irritation.
