This stoneware recipe was developed to be very open handbuilding clay bodies with the addition of sand or grog to taste. For wheel throwing, run through a de-airing pugmill for added plasticity.

For the best color response for all 4 recipes, fire in a wood-burning kiln with moderate to heavy reduction. After soaking at peak temperature, cool the kiln in reduction to between 1450°–1650°F. For brighter reds, cool to 1575°–1650°F. For darker blacks and purples, cool to 1450°–1550°F.
