Instructions
Published in "Engobe and Glazes" in the March 2015 issue of Ceramics Monthly.
A semi-transparent satin matte glaze that holds colorants well. Deb Schwartzkopf uses this glaze with various colorants on a number of her forms. It is the main base glaze used on the form shown here, and other glazes are lightly sprayed over it to give color variations.
Mix all dry ingredients together before adding water. After mixing, screen with at least a 60-mesh (90-mesh, 100-mesh) sieve to remove lumps and disperse any colorants evenly. For blues, omit the addition of coral Mason stain and try testing 0.25-0.5% cobalt carbonate. For greens, omit the coral Mason and try 1-3% copper carbonate. For other colors, try testing 2-7% commercial stains. For application, this glaze works well as a dipping glaze.
