Instructions

This opaque white matte glaze verges on being grayish blue. It breaks black on ridges, and is great to accentuate texture and facets. Published in the book, Oriental Glazes, by Michael Bailey. It is recommended for once-firing, but Caternia Roma always uses it on bisqued pieces.

Published in "High-Fire Glazes" by Caterina Roma, in the May 2014 issue of Ceramics Monthly.
This is sensitive to thickness and temperature: completely matte when fired at cone 9, and has a more satin finish at cone 10, with a light crackle surface. Thickness gives a whiter look and tends to go black if applied to thin. I use a thick mixture, brush it on, and fire it in the hot spots of my electric kiln at cone 9-10.
