Clear glaze formulated to fit Red Fritware Casting Slip. The clear glaze can be seen on the interior of the vessel shown here and the glaze on the outside is also the Clear Glaze with the addition of colorants to create a blue glaze (2.5% Copper Carbonate and 0.3% Cobalt Carbonate).
Published in "Cone 04 Glazes" by Anna and Kevin Ramsay, in the Feb 2017 issue of Ceramics Monthly.
Ferro frit 3195 is a high-boron/calcium frit, and Ferro frit 3134 is a high-boron/calcium frit that is low in alumina.
This is glaze holds colorants exceptionally well. Try the following additions for colors or test your own. For a Warm-Toned Clear: add 1% Burnt Umber. For Honey: add 7% Burnt Umber. For Green: add 2.5% Copper Carbonate and 4% Burnt Umber. For Turquoise: add 3% copper Carbonate. For Blue: add 2.5% Copper Carbonate and 0.3% Cobalt Carbonate.
Apply the colored glazes to credit-card thickness to allow it to run/move. When using the clear glaze, apply it as thinly as possible for complete transparency. Maintain a specific gravity of approximately 1.45 for the colored glazes and 1.25 for the clear glaze.
