Instructions
This recipe by Robin Hopper was originally published in his book, Making Marks and was more recently published in the February 2018 issue of Ceramics Monthly.
*The macaloid can be substituted with 5% bentonite. **The colorants Higgins uses include various Mason stains, which can be used between 1 and 15%. If using metallic oxides, smaller percentages, in the 0.25–4% range, should be used. Whether using commercial stains or oxides, colors should be tested with your clay, glaze, and firing temperature/atmosphere, as the fired results depend on all of these factors.
