Published in "Maxine Chelini" by Richard Garriott-Stejskal, in the Feb 2003 issue of Ceramics Monthly.Because the ash was from a house fire, it probably included metallic elements from the melted plumbing and nails. If this recipe is mixed with only wood ash, an addition of 1-2% iron oxide may be necassary. For higher gloss, add more silica.
