High-fire ash base glaze that holds colorants well. The image shown here is Base Ash Glaze recipe with the addition of 1% Cobalt Carbonate (The Gray-Blue-Green Ash Glaze variation listed below in the instructions) over Robert Briscoe's White Bisque Slip.
For Gray-Blue-Green Ash Glaze add: 1% Cobalt Carbonate. For Mottled Yellow-Brown Ash Glaze, add: 3% Nickel Oxide. For Black to Greenish Black Ash Glaze, add 1 % Chrome Oxide and 0.5% Cobalt Carbonate. The color of the Black to Greenish Black Ash Glaze depends on thickness. It is black when used thin and turns to a greenish-black with a thicker application.
