I add a tablespoon of epsom salt for every 500 grams to keep the slip at a uniform thickness. I mix the slip to the consistency of cream and sieve before use. I apply 1 coat on leather-hard clay via pouring and let the excess slip drip off in random places. The variation in the slip is achieved through reduction firing and the wide firing range is great for a small updraft gas kiln. This slip is compatible with underglaze application as well as the clear glaze I use. This recipe was shared by Jennifer Graff in the September 2021 issue of Ceramics Monthly.
