Artist Statement
Beverly Berg, PhD, is a Los Angeles based ceramic artist. As an artist and a psychotherapist, I strive to create pieces that express a collaborative effort between myself and each individual ball of clay I meet.
Studio Description
Bitter Root Pottery is an artist’s studio for beginners to advanced. The teachers are great, and the community is strong.

Joyful
What is your favorite thing about your studio?
The community of people in it
What is the one thing in your studio you can’t live without?
The studio is open 24/7!
What are your top three studio wishes?
My wishes have been met.

How do you save money on materials and supplies?
I don’t.
How do you recharge creatively?
Mindful meditation, Crossfit training exercise, connecting with friends, writing, traveling with my husband.
Do you have any DIY tips for studio efficiency?
Clean up after yourself!
What challenges have you given yourself to overcome?
The greatest challenge that I still am working to overcome is letting go of perfectionism.
What did you first piece look like?
My first piece looked like a pot-bellied pig!
What ceramic superpower would you have and why?
I would be able to pull up 15 lbs. of clay on the wheel and make the walls thin, and utilize each ounce of it.
Who is your ceramic art mentor and why?
Joe Molinaro and Richard Burkett. They are production potters and amazing artists.
What is your studio playlist?
Van Morrison
Why do you create art?
Art is a calling that I started responding to at a very young age. It has always brought me immediate happiness, peace of mind, and self-expression.
What is your best studio tip?
It’s fine to learn and admire others around you, but meet yourself where you are and try not to compare your progress to anyone but yourself.
If you could change one property of clay, what would it be?
I wouldn’t.
