Artist Statement
Texture usually inspires me—a subway car air vent, a door mat, beach stones have all been sparks. Most of the work on a piece happens during the leather-hard stage, and heavy slip is often a feature. Because clay’s earthiness is most appealing to me, I leave a lot of surfaces unglazed or very simply glazed. Although I often work in series, each piece is unique.
