Studio Description: 

My Studio is small surrounded by a wooded area in rural Oklahoma. I do not have running water, but I do have heat and air. Next to my studio are two Kilns both electric but of very different sizes. I only do hand building so my equipment is basic.

What type of clay do you use?  

Currently Black Mountain Sculpture clay

What temperature do you fire to?  

Cone 5 to 10

What is your primary forming method?  

Pinch and Coil

What is your favorite surface treatment?

Nothing or a engobe or textured glaze

Do you make any of your own tools?

No

What one word would you use to describe your work?

Grotesque

What is your favorite thing about your studio?  

Its size

What is the one thing in your studio you can’t live without?

My shelving, without it I wouldn't be able to contain all my supplies.

What are your top three studio wishes?  

I would love a large front loading electric kiln, a sink and running water.

What’s on your current reading list?

Electric Kiln ceramics

How do you save money on materials and supplies?  

I recycle all my clay and reuse it, and I don't buy often.

How do you recharge creatively?  

I love to read, a variety of material to keep me informed and excited. I especially like non-fiction.

Do you have any DIY tips for studio efficiency?  

I made all my own tables to fit my height. Most tables are to high so I created my own tables to fit me and how I work.

What challenges have you given yourself to overcome?

I am currently planning my information for packets to send to galleries. I am looking for gallery representation.

What did you first piece look like?  

I still have it. It was a 18" high sculpture of a river otter.

What ceramic superpower would you have and why?

To be able to work a bit faster.

Who is your ceramic art mentor and why?  

Richard Burkett and Joanne Hayakawa, my grad professors. I learned a lot from them.

What is your studio playlist?

All Audiobooks, my music play list is non existent.

Why do you create art?

Because I need to, I have to. I love to build and work with my hands.
