Artist Statement: My work explores natural phenomena and the imprint of human presence. Inquiries engage physical and symbolic impositions of structured order on organic forms and draw upon associative indicators of material trace, place, gravity and scale.

Studio Description:  Primarily employ electric kiln firing. Individual wood molds are constructed for each work and larger projects are poured in cement and replicate clay sculpture surface and glaze qualities.

What type of clay do you use? Modified Stoneware.

What temperature do you fire to? Cone 6.

What is your primary forming method? Press molding, coil and slab construction.

What is your favorite surface treatment? Wood ash based glazes.

What one word would you use to describe your work? Organic.

What is your favorite thing about your studio? Ample natural light and large doors for ventilation.

What is the one thing in your studio you can’t live without? Soft rubber kidney tools.

What are your top three studio wishes? Large gas kiln, forklift, and clay mixer.

What’s on your current reading list? "Overstory" by Richard Powers.

How do you save money on materials and supplies? Modifying commercial clay bodies.

How do you recharge creatively? Gardening and hiking.

What challenges have you given yourself to overcome? Keep new project concepts moving through series work and take and experiment.

What did you first piece look like? I don't remember a first piece.

What ceramic superpower would you have and why? More strength and focus is always helpful.

What is your studio playlist? Pandora, Podcasts, and audio books.

Why do you create art? Making is still exciting and continues to present new challenges.

If you could change one property of clay, what would it be? Freeze tolerance.
