Artist Statement: I love to create beautiful pieces of art through slip casting, hand molding, and painting using a mixture of clay, stains, and glass.

Studio Description:  Designs By Shasa is a home based studio and business that produces unique ceramics, handmade jewelry and handmade beads.

What temperature do you fire to? It varies depending on the process used.

What is your primary forming method? Slip casting.

What is your favorite surface treatment? Mixed -I love to constantly try different techniques, but I do love decals.

Do you make any of your own tools? No.

What one word would you use to describe your work? Useable.

What is your favorite thing about your studio? I love creating in the comfort of my home.

What is the one thing in your studio you can’t live without? Wax paper.

What are your top three studio wishes? First, I would like a bigger space to create. Second, I would like to fire pieces at home. Third, I want top notch organization.

What’s on your current reading list? Failing Foward by a John Maxwell.

How do you save money on materials and supplies? I buy locally and always look for a deal.

How do you recharge creatively? I have to make time for rest. When I have proper sleep, my creativity flows best.

Do you have any DIY tips for studio efficiency? Not yet.

What challenges have you given yourself to overcome? I have given myself the challenge to make my own molds. I also challenge myself to make a loving through selling my artwork.

What did you first piece look like? My very first piece was a big egg cracked open with a human head coming out. Never thought I would make another ceramic piece after that challenge.

What ceramic superpower would you have and why? My ceramic superpower would be taking broken pieces and creating something new because I don’t like to leave any work behind.

Who is your ceramic art mentor and why? Brenda Lovell is my ceramics group teacher that has taught and is teaching me to explore more.

What is your studio playlist? I love to list to Christian Gospel Music.

Why do you create art? I love making beautiful and useable things that are unique. I would have clay stay moist even when left out.

What is your best studio tip? Keep your studio organized so that less time is wasted finding needed tools.

If you could change one property of clay, what would it be? I would have clay stay moist until fired.
