Artist Statement:
In my work with colored porcelain clay I strive to create an impressionistic imagery reminiscent of the work of Cezanne, Matisse, Monet and the like. I am inspired by the translucency of the material and the way the light reveals and interplays with.
Studio Description:
I work outside on my porch in the warm weather. I am also a member of a co-op studio near my home.
What type of clay do you use?
Laguna Frost White.
What temperature do you fire to?
Cone 6.
What is your primary forming method?
Handbuilding.
What is your favorite surface treatment?
Smooth
Do you make any of your own tools?
Yes. I make my own clay cutting wires.
What one word would you use to describe your work?
Colorful.
What is your favorite thing about your studio?
The vibrant colors of my porcelain.
What is the one thing in your studio you can’t live without?
A pastry roller.
What are your top three studio wishes?
An outside studio with a view in the summer. A studio filled with lots of natural light.

How do you save money on materials and supplies?
Split larger quantities with others.
How do you recharge creatively?
In the US National Parks
Do you have any DIY tips for studio efficiency?
Keep things clean, organize your tools, never dry sand, wet sand when sanding is necessary, wipe tools and surfaces with a microfiber cloth.
What challenges have you given yourself to overcome?
The tendency for Frost White to crack.
What did you first piece look like?
Like an accidental watercolor painting.
What ceramic superpower would you have and why?
To cure the cracking in Frost White
Who is your ceramic art mentor and why?
Chris Campbell. I worked in colored clay before taking her workshops, but she taught me a lot more!

Why do you create art?
Because I have always needed to.
What is your best studio tip?
Don’t rush! Let things dry slowly.
If you could change one property of clay, what would it be?
Again, the cracking in Frost White.
