Artist Statement
I specialize in sculptural art that brings interest and colour to yards and gardens. Works can be architectural or serve as a focal point. Whether they are placed outdoors or indoors, they are designed to be expressive without being overly cute.
Studio Description
I have a gallery and studio located adjacent to my house. The studio has ample light from large windows and a beautiful view of the ocean. I love mixing and testing my own glazes and fire in an electric kiln to cone 6.
What type of clay do you use?
Porcelain and lately, dark stoneware
What temperature do you fire to?
cone 6
What is your primary forming method?
Thrown and altered
Do you make any of your own tools?
Occasionally. I sharpen my purchased trimming tools on a diamond blade so they end up worn and looking homemade.
What one word would you use to describe your work?
Unusual
What is your favorite thing about your studio?
The view
What is the one thing in your studio you can’t live without?
Kiln
What are your top three studio wishes?
A gas kiln, more gallery space, hot water...the cold water is just about freezing in winter.
What’s on your current reading list?
Ceramics Monthly, of course.
How do you save money on materials and supplies?
I mix my own underglazes.
How do you recharge creatively?
I have no trouble on that front. I always have more ideas than I can execute.
