Artist Statement
I love throwing pots! I have had a solo show “Muddy Hands “at ACC and have been featured artist at Lunar Rendezvous and Bay Area Symohony League Home Tours. I currently have work on view at Mosaic Art & Home in Smithville and Lush Flowers.

Studio Description
12x16-ft. stand-alone building in my back yard with attached 10X10-ft. deck. Very compact and lots of shelves. Wheel, slab roller, sink, counter, glazing table, and kiln are all inside...no air conditioner.

What type of clay do you use?
Stoneware

What temperature do you fire to?
Cone 5-6 electric, Cone 10 reduction, raku

What is your primary forming method?
Throwing 70% and hand building 30%

What is your favorite surface treatment?
Chattering and carving

Do you make any of your own tools?
Yes.

What one word would you use to describe your work?
Functional

What is your favorite thing about your studio?
Everything!

What is the one thing in your studio you can’t live without?
Shimpo wheel.

What are your top three studio wishes?
Pugmill, Creative ideas, Bouncing ideas among fellow potters

How do you save money on materials and supplies?
Husband makes pottery tools and bats, some homemade glazes, The Potter’s Attic - Facebook.

How do you recharge creatively?
Just play....making something new that I have not done before, and experimenting.

Do you have any DIY tips for studio efficiency?
Put every tool that you use on a tray so you don't have to play hide and seek.

What challenges have you given yourself to overcome?
Time commitments

A small blob

What ceramic superpower would you have and why?
Extra hands to wedge clay

Who is your ceramic art mentor and why?
Dennis LaValley. 1st class at age 60 at ACC was my birthday gift to myself. He is amazing!

What is on your studio playlist?
Classical, Jazz, and Broadway musicals

Why do you create art?
I can’t not create art. I have been a pianist since age 6 and have taught and performed since 1972. I never had dirty hands until 2009.

What is your best studio tip?
Clean as you go.

If you could change one property of clay, what would it be?
It would always be soft.
