Artist Statement
Frances was born in Dublin, Ireland, and has also lived and worked in both the UK and Australia. Her interest in and love of the creative process began in childhood and she has always been a maker. She completed an Advanced Certificate in Studio Textiles in Melbourne College of Textiles in 1992. Frances studied Fine Art in Bray Institute of Further Education, Ireland culminating in a BA Honours Degree in Ceramic Art & 3D Design from West Wales School of the Arts.
Frances has had her work exhibited extensively in Ireland including the RHA, Sculpture in Context, RDS Craft Competition and Ceramics Ireland Juried Exhibitions. She was awarded the Mill Cove Award for Ceramics in 2010. She also exhibits in the UK and is a member of West Wales Applied Arts.

Frances employs mainly hand building in her ceramic process for greater flexibility. She believes colour and texture are very important and enjoys experimenting with and incorporating them into her work. The use of mixed media, including decals, and other materials are very important to her creative process.
