Studio Description
After a career in arts administration and teaching ceramics in Tennessee, Sandy relocated to Arizona to resume her full-time studio ceramic work. With an interest in handbuilding functional vessel forms, her home studio is set-up to accommodate mid-range stoneware firings utilizing slab / coil / press-molded construction techniques. The pieces are impressed with found objects revealing a personal narrative often found on walks / in the garden / travels, and the forms are often the result of a strong architectural interest. Slips and glazes are applied to the heavily patterned surfaces during various intervals of the construction / firing processes. Glazes are poured / brushed / sprayed, emphasizing a multi-layered effect.
