Gaseous, liquid, or solid materials that remain suspended within glaze melt without dissolving into melt, and which often coagulate to form visible particles. An example is copper in a copper-red glaze—if firing is too fast, minute copper globules will not coagulate into visible masses, and glaze will be clear. Source: Clay: A Studio Handbook
