Studio Description:
I love color and I love pattern. I am an avid quilter, bead artist and spent many years decorating Ukrainian eggs, known as Pysanky. The order and symmetry of a geometric pattern has always drawn and intrigued me and the rhythmic application of dots calms and centers me. I work with white earthenware and utilize commercial underglazes on greenware which allows me to be precise in the application of my designs. Keeping my work in the lower firing range allows me the widest range of colors available. I recently began using the imagery of crows and ravens in my work, I’m enjoying using their silhouettes as another way to see and explore patterns. Limiting my color palette has been an exercise in seeing things in only “black and white”. I have also been working with skulls and enjoy embellishing this symbol of death with color and whimsy.
