Artist Statement
Joliene Dexter is originally from Southern California and has lived in Nevada for the past twenty-six years. In 1998, she finished her undergraduate career at the University of Nevada, Reno, and earned her B.A. in English Writing and Art (sculpture). In 1996, Joliene has had one art image and a few poems published in various university journals and presses. In the summer of '99, she was an Artist-in-Residence in Saskatchewan, Canada, at St. Peter's Abbey. In the fall of 2000, Joliene began her first bronze statue commission for the historical organization E. Clampus Vitus and completed it in June 2002. Her statue is permanently located in Bridgeport, California. Shortly after completing the statue, she began graduate school in the fall of 2002 through June of 2004. She completed two of three years of advanced study in sculpture at California State University at Chico, Ca., but did not achieve the master's degree and moved back to Nevada.

For artistic growth, Joliene has been attending ceramics classes at Western Nevada College. She is working on installation art. The installation will be ceramic panels that will explore the ideas of inside and outside: inner shapes contained within outer shapes on ceramic panels that will cover the walls of an art gallery. The panels will look like insect hives that will form labyrinths; this will be achieved by wheel throwing and hand-building large pod or cocoon like shapes on the outside and smaller versions of these shapes will be contained on the inside.
