|Studio Description:||My studio is about 750 sq. ft. in the woods of Bucks Co. PA. I fire both electric and gas kilns. My studio has 5 wheels, a Peter Pugger, extruder, slab roller and my own design tile press. I teach classes from my studio in both throwing and handbuilding, and clay sculpture.
I’m a retired art teacher who has also been a potter for close to 40 years. My focus is on functional stoneware pottery and figurative sculpture in both clay and bronze.
As an art teacher I’ve taught drawing, painting, sculpture, jewelry/silversmithing, mold making, and of course ceramics. Clay has always been in my blood. Occasionally I get the urge to paint or draw but I always return to clay. It is therapy. In 2003 my youngest daughter Katie, 19, a sophomore premed student at Swarthmore College was killed in a car accident. My life was over. I retired from teaching, I withdrew from life. I could hear my daughters voice telling me to get off the couch and get to work. By forcing myself to get out to the studio where we frequently worked together I found my life again. I had to do it for her. I continue to do it for her, to make her proud of her mom. To continue to make a difference she never had a chance to make. I opened the Katie Stauffer Memorial Art Center and began to make a difference in my community through the arts.
