2018 Emerging Artist: Patrick Kingshill

Patrick Kingshill, Lincoln, Nebraska

Patrick Kingshill’s pieces are a continuous study of form, process, and surface. Pieces and parts of varied geometries work together to create a whole. Rarely do parts operate alone as most are built specifically to work with neighboring or attached pieces. Each completed sculpture is its own built environment, connecting his personal catalog of collected objects to a visual language associated with physical materials: building to wood; human to terra cotta; furniture to plaster; glaze to vehicle, etc. Monochromatic surfaces eliminate the noise that is common with the built environment and that an individual must work to tune out in order to cope with or relate to their surroundings.

Kingshill creates studies that are a reaction to objects that interest him. He often abstracts these objects as a way to hold the viewer’s attention. His wisdom and creativity are seen in the visual balance foremost in each unique form.
